You guessed it…Apply for a travel credit card(s). By doing so, they will allow you access to more than just Global Entry for free. You can also get access to airport lounges in over 1,000 different airports where you can enjoy complimentary food, drinks, showers, etc.
Especially, when traveling with the whole family. Water bottles can cost $5/piece. This is at the top of most lists, but truly is a great way to save money while staying hydrated. Just bring an empty water bottle to fill up once you’re at the airport, and immediately save the extra dollars you’d be spending on beverages throughout your airport visits.
Downloading your boarding pass to both the apple wallet or having it accessible on the airlines app saves so much time at the airport. No more worrying about your paper ticket. Each option leaves you with a scalable image to get through security or at the gate.
Setting an alarm on your phone 24 hours before your departure time is always a good idea, to remind yourself to check-in online. This gives you priority boarding privileges and added seat flexibility, and most airlines allow you to do this through their mobile app.
When you approach the gate, speak with a gate agent about available upgrades. If the plane is not full, your chances of inexpensive or complimentary upgrades are possible. I scored a complimentary business class seat for my husband and I just by asking.
Once getting to the security check, head to the left. Research shows that people naturally gravitate toward the right lane, so do the opposite and go left. Chances are the left lane will be slightly quieter and less hectic, although this may not always be the case.
Remove all food at security check point and put into container. We learned the hard way and were held up for 1 hour over beef jerky and another time over an applesauce pouch. Now, we just take any and all food out of our carry on luggage.
To avoid any delays going through security do not try to go through with wrapped gifts. If the gift raises any red flags the TSA will unwrap it. Your best bet is to follow all TSA guidelines when taking items on a plane in your carryon and wrap the present once you reach your destination.
Buying a portable charger has been a life changer for me! I never go traveling without one. Bringing a portable charger allows you to charge your devices on the go wherever you are. That way you’re not walking around the airport trying to find an outlet or to find that they are broken or being used.
Airport food can be quite expensive so if you want to save a little extra money I suggest bringing your own food with you. We pack baggies of snacks including: nuts, power bars, beef jerky, dried fruit, etc. Again, just make sure to remove it all during security checks as you don’t want snacks to hold you up.
As I learn more hacks on this subject, I’ll update this post! XOXO, Tiffany
