Travel & Leisure just voted Charleston as the number 1 city in the United States! After spending a weekend there, we understand why. The historic town is the perfect choice for couples, families, and girlfriends alike. Charleston draws in visitors with its horse-drawn carriages, cobblestone streets, award-winning restaurants, and beautiful sandy beaches.
We spent a lot of time researching the perfect spot for a couples’ weekend. Hotel Bennett did not disappoint. Located on King Street, surrounded by restaurants and boutique shops, made this location just perfect. The decor is over the top beautiful both in the restaurants, lounge, and rooftop pool. The rooms are also beautifully decorated with the glamorous stand alone tub!
Even if you choose not to stay at this hotel, stop in for a glass of champagne and dessert at Camellias, or head upstairs to the swanky rooftop lounge, Fiat Lux.
Other restaurants we recommend: SNOB, Grace & Grit, Fig, Rooftop Bar at The Venue
Shopping on King Street is an experience on its own. Yes, you see the recognizable stores like J. Crew and Vineyard Vines, but in between the chain stores are cute boutique shops. Head to Skinny Dip, where you can shop, then head to the second floor for coffee/wine.
An artist’s heaven. City Market is a flea market specializing in woven baskets, pottery, jewelry, etc. Just fun to walk around.
Think Notebook, Forest Gump…the plantation tour is a must-do for first-time visitors. It’s rich with history and culture and is one of the oldest working plantations. Go on a self-guided tour of The Notebook film locations, specifically Boone Hall and Cypress Gardens.
A must-do in Charleston is beach hop. So many gorgeous beaches within miles of the city. Checkout Folly Beach, Sullivans Island, Isle of Palms & Seabrook. For a more extended stay, check out Kiawah Island (insert link here).
We added Charleston to our South Carolina trip in September. We also visited Montage Bluff in Bluffton and Kiawah Island. Make sure to check out those destinations too on the blog. We used 22,000 Chase Ultimate Award points/night at Hotel Bennett.
